We are delighted to confirm that Kirkby College have once again been awarded ‘Healthy Schools’ status. This accreditation is in recognition of the work we do in school around the promotion of healthy eating, healthy lifestyles, physical activity and emotional health and wellbeing.

Well done to everyone involved in maintaining this important accreditation.

This week, students at Kirkby College will mark Holocaust Remembrance Day in their history lessons and events taking place both at the academy and through our online learning. Holocaust Memorial Day is the day for everyone to remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution, and in the genocides which followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.

The Holocaust Centre have livestreamed a fantastic and engaging event that included talks, short films, songs, and remembrance. Students have been given the time and opportunity to engage with this subject matter, and find out why commemorating this time in history is so important.

Great work again last week from students across Kirkby College Academy, as fifty of our students got involved with the Your School Games challenges. Students both attending the academy as key-worker children and at home took part in the Fast Football Feet and Fast Hands and Feet, winning the team competitions in both events.

Well done to everyone involved. It is great to see so many active students during this latest lockdown. Healthy bodies lead to healthy minds – keep up the good work!

We have been delighted to be able to support the Kirkby Community Christmas Appeal – they are providing hampers for members of our community who are lonely and on their own this Christmas. Students Jake and Andreea were joined by staff governors Mrs Bates and Mr Johnson as they delivered chocolates to Lighthouse Estate Agents and Lettings today to be included in these hampers.

Our student council would also like to say an extremely big thank you to everyone that donated items for our Reverse Advent Calendar – we have been overwhelmed with your donations. Our student council delivered the items to Storehouse – Kirkby Foodbank with Mr Golden and Miss Reeve, and were amazed at the generosity of our community.

We ended the term in true Kirkby College style, with our fabulous Christmas concert! Students tuned in virtually from their tutor groups to watch our extremely talented students perform a selection of Christmas songs. Well done to all involved and to the very talented (and patient) Mr Beighton.

Mr Golden also presented a card and gifts to Mr Beighton today in recognition of his very impressive 20 years service to the academy. Thank you to Mr Beighton for all he has done and continues to do for the benefit of the students at the academy. He is a true star ⭐️

Merry Christmas everyone!

Earlier this year we set our students an ambitious target. We are aiming to travel to Tokyo, the destination of the 2021 Olympics, by completing the 5,879 miles in our practical PE lessons.

Whilst the activities we can take part in are currently restricted, we have focussed upon fitness activities. These include running, walking, jogging, and skipping. Each lesson, we have counted up the miles covered by each class as we move towards our target.

During the last fortnight, we have completed 520 miles in our efforts to ‘Travel to Tokyo’. This brings our current total to 4950 miles completed, meaning we only have 929 miles to go!

We are still on course to reach our target and will update as we reach this impressive goal!
