Staff in the faculty work to support students in a variety of ways. This can be in class support, small group intervention, 1:1 sessions or whole class teaching. They use intervention programmes such as Fresh Start, Lexia and Switch On. Reading programmes such as Accelerated Reader are used in year 7 and 8. They also deliver entry-level qualifications in both English and maths.
Students can also be referred for Nurture support which may be on a 1:1 basis or within small group sessions. Staff monitor and review students’ progress through termly reviews of Education Support plans and use of assessment tools such as the Autism Progression Framework.
Learning Support operate a breakfast club for students in learning support before school. We also run a lunchtime club for identified students to complete activities and socialise under the supervision of an LSA. The library is also open at lunchtime and after school for homework support and a range of clubs. The Learning Support Faculty can be found in L1,L2,L3 and L4 in the Lower School building.
