The purpose of the Literacy Centre is to support students with reading, writing and spelling. Students from Year 7, 8 and 9 may visit the Centre on a daily, weekly or termly basis. After regular visits to the Centre students will show improvement, and will feel more confident. The Literacy Centre runs a variety of successful literacy programmes such as ARROW, Switch On, Fresh Start and Lexia.

ARROW Focus-Reading and Spelling,

Students are encouraged to record their own voice and listen to their reading. The programme runs for 10 lessons.

Fresh Start Focus- Reading and Spelling,

This programme revisits phonics and is suitable for a range of students working at National Curriculum level 1 to level 4. This course runs through the academic year.

Switch On  Focus-Reading,

Switch On promotes independent reading using whole word recognition and encourages enjoyment from reading; a student will work with a member of staff one to one on a daily basis. This programme takes 10 weeks.

Lexia Focus-Reading,

This computer programme promotes independent learning and uses phonics; it is suitable for students working at different National Curriculum levels ranging from Level 1 to Level 4.

The school is open from 4th January 2021 for vulnerable and key worker students only.
