We are often looking to recruit keen individuals to become governors and support our academy in this important voluntary role. No experience is needed, as full training will be given and we welcome interest from all individuals who are able to give a certain amount of time, and who are prepared to use their skills to support and challenge our leadership team. There are different categories of governors, including parents, community and staff representatives.

This voluntary role would be ideal for anyone with experience from the private, independent or voluntary sectors. Any person joining Kirkby College’s governing body would be supportive of our key aims and values and operate in a spirit of collaboration, co-operation and inclusion.

Governing bodies are responsible for a wide range of matters which come under three main headings:

  • Strategic direction
  • Support, monitoring and evaluation
  • Ensuring accountability

Duties include management of the academy budget, school effectiveness, preparation for Ofsted inspection and involvement in a variety of personnel and pupil issues. In your role as a governor, you will be supported in these duties by other experienced members of the governing body and the headteacher.

In the interest of safeguarding, you will be expected to undertake a full DBS (criminal records) check.
