We expect outstanding attendance from all of our students.  It is expected that all students will meet our 96% attendance target and will strive to achieve 100% attendance.

Poor attendance is the single greatest inhibitor to success. Put simply; if you’re not here, you can’t learn!

All students should be ready to enter the academy gates for 8.30am and should ensure that they are punctual to all lessons. Any known absences should be communicated to both the form tutor and our student services/ attendance team as soon as possible.

Students are not permitted to leave the academy site without staff permission. This will only be granted via prior contact from parents/carers.

It is expected that parents/carers will:

  • Keep their contact details up-to-date with the academy
  • Ensure that their child arrives on time and prepared for their learning
  • Contact the academy on the first day of any absence (and keep the academy updated on a daily basis regarding any absences)
  • Discuss any issues that may affect the student’s attendance with the academy as soon as possible

Our aims with regards behaviour at Kirkby College are to:

  • ensure that every member of the academy community feels respected and valued
  • enable all members of the academy to work together in a positive and supportive way, promoting an environment where everyone feels happy, safe and secure
  • ensure that all members of the academy community fully understand the consequences of failing to meet their responsibility to others
  • enhance learning and teaching
  • develop students’ sense of self-discipline and an acceptance of responsibility for their own actions
  • promote and reward positive behaviour

To this end, students are expected to:

  • have regard for their own safety and that of others – in current circumstances this is particularly important to minimise the risk of Covid-19 transmission
  • arrive at the academy and all lessons punctually and prepared to learn
  • bring appropriate equipment
  • be polite, courteous and respectful to everyone at Kirkby College, and to comply with reasonable requests or instructions made by staff at the first time of asking

Holidays in term time will always be classed as an unauthorised absence unless there are exceptional circumstances. These are:

  • Where families are service personnel
  • Compassionate reasons that have been confidentially shared with Kirkby College
  • Occasions when the student has been offered an exceptional out-of-school opportunity

All of the above will need to be discussed with academy staff and approved for a student to have an authorised absence.
