Kirkby College has an active Student Council that meet every two weeks to discuss developments within the academy, suggest improvements and scrutinise policy.
Each tutor group elects representatives in order to gather their peers’ opinions and feed them in to the whole school council.
Members of the senior leadership team are regularly invited to the school council meetings to discuss new initiatives. The student council representatives meet the headteacher each half term to share their ideas.
As well as the Student Council, we have a Student Leadership team which comprises of a Sports Committee of PE Ambassadors. Meeting termly, they provide input on specific school PE and sport development within Kirkby College. They have previously designed the new School PE kit, designed reward badges, shared ideas for redecorating the changing rooms and sports block and provided ideas for future reward trips.
Representatives are selected each year who meet the following criteria-
- Role model in PE lessons
- Regular participation in clubs/ teams outside of lessons
- Exemplary performance in every lesson
- No behaviour points/ kit issues in PE
